Sustainability at custo med
For people, the environment and the community
As a medical technology manufacturer, we bear responsibility for people, resources and the future. It is therefore crucial for us that we make our business activities as sustainable as possible. At our site and throughout our processes, we take responsibility for the environment, resources and future generations. Here you can find out more about the measures and initiatives we use to implement sustainability in various areas of our company.
Reliable, regional and sustainable supply chain
Our supply chain should not only meet our quality standards, but also be sustainable and have good roots within the region.
Some of our products are manufactured and repaired directly at our company headquarters. Almost all of our main suppliers are located in our immediate vicinity. The top five partners, which together account for around 50% of our material-based purchasing volume, are all located in Germany within a radius of roughly 300 kilometres. Of these, three of the five suppliers are located within a radius of less than 150 kilometres.
For us, short distances mean greater delivery reliability, more flexibility, lower emissions and a strong partnership with companies from the region.
Reducing packaging materials and giving preference to recyclable components
As a medical technology company, it is sometimes not so easy to combine sustainability and stringent safety requirements. Medical devices must be comprehensively protected during transport and storage; at the same time we want to minimise our ecological footprint as much as possible. That is why we are constantly working to harmonise both aspects in the best possible way.
Our principle is to only package what is really necessary.
- Our products are predominantly dispatched in corrugated cardboard boxes, which can be entirely disposed of via paper/cardboard recycling.
- Some items must also be packed in plastic bags for safety or hygiene reasons. These can be recycled via the Yellow Bag system in Germany.
- For additional protection, we use air cushions made from maize starch, a more environmentally friendly, compostable alternative to conventional plastic padding.

Durable & repair-friendly products
We rely on technology that is not only efficient but also durable. Our products are designed to maximise service life and conceived in such a way that repairs can be carried out quickly and in a way that saves on resources. This reduces waste and supports the responsible use of materials.
Energy efficiency at our main site
We also focus on sustainability at our company headquarters in Ottobrunn near Munich.
- We use 100% green electricity, supplemented by photovoltaic systems that cover around a quarter of our electricity demand on sunny days.
- All company cars are electric. We have ten charging stations at our building to charge these vehicles.
- Sustainability was also taken into account as part of our remodelling in 2025. The use of ecological thermal insulation made of wood fibre and triple-glazed windows minimises energy losses and sustainably reduces energy demand. When renovating the roof, we placed great importance on preserving the existing building while still taking measures that have a favourable impact on energy use. By preserving the roof structure, we were able to avoid having to use new timber, achieving a much better CO2 balance as a result.
Social commitment
Quality with responsibility
We see it as our responsibility to make an active contribution to society. In addition to our business activities, we therefore want to support people, communities and the future. That’s why we actively endeavour to support local and international initiatives that promote education, health and social responsibility.
